GUWAHATI, OCTOBER 14 :: Ajmal Foundation handed over a cheque for Rs 15,000 to Raju Baruah, a staffer of Pratidin Time, at the Guwahati Press Club complex on Wednesday. Raju has been unwell for some time and needs to undergo a surgery urgently. Nava Thakuria, General Secretary of Guwahati Press Club handed over the cheque to Raju in presence of Nurul Islam Laskar, Project Head, ANREM; Haidor Hussain Bora, Media incharge, Ajmal Foundation; and a host of media and PR practitioners of the city.

It may be mentioned that Ajmal Foundation is the only NGO of Assam which has a very clear cut policy to help artistes and media persons in their times of need. It was in February 2009 that Ajmal Foundation had announced the launch of the Ajmal Media Welfare Scheme (AMWS) with a corpus of Rs 25 lakh. The management of Ajmal Foundation plan to raise the corpus to Rs one crore in the very near future. Since inception and till date, 49 artistes and journalists have been extended financial help to the aggregate tune of Rs 12 lakh under AMWS.
