DEVKOTA’S HUMANISM EXPLORED

Sayapatri Sankrityakala Sangam, a social cultural organization organized an Internatinal Seminar on Humanism of Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota at Assam Down Town University recently.

Research scholars from across the country and also from Nepal attended the seminar and presented papers on different aspects of Mahakavi Devkota’s contribution to Nepali literature.

The main focus of the seminar was to highlight the humanism which was manifested on the works of Devkota. Besides, being a great poet, Devkota was the first and foremost Nepali writer in English who also had successfully composed poems in as many as nine languages, viz; Sanskrit, Nepali, Hindi, Newari, Bengali, Urdu, English, French and German.

“The successful completion of the seminar proved one important thing, that the unified efforts by the litterateurs from both India and Nepal can only maintain and carry forward the mammoth legacy left behind by the literary genius and  a humanist, Laxmi Prasad Devkota”, said C.K Shrestha, an eminent author and a theatre personality.

The brainchild behind the program, C. K. Shrestha enthralled the audience with the recitation of his poem which appealed the listeners present on the occasion to act united towards strengthening and mobilizing every possible resource to protect, promote and popularize the works of literary genius like Mahakavi Devkota and Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya.

Expressing his satisfaction and delightfulness, Dr. Sibnath Sarma said, “ We are just beginning to understand Devkota. The confluence of ideas today could touch only a few aspects of superhuman like Devkota. There has to be many more such seminars and programs, only then can one understand to some extent the charismatic personality  of Laxmi Prasad Devkota”.
