Globally renowned Nepali language singer who created ripples in the independent music scene is equally popular in the North Eastern region of India for his Himalayan folk song that connects communities. After his performance at the NH Weekender Music Festival 2016 in Shillong and the North East Festival 2019, Bipul Chettri is heard and followed by non-Nepali speaking musical fans too in the region so the ‘Syndicate’ singer who is popularly known for his mountain folk music infused with contemporary touch is being invited to the Rongali festival in Guwahati.
Zubeen Garg – the star sensation of Assamese music industry is opening the festival’s cultural program on Friday while Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has consented to inaugurate the festival on 8th April 2022 and pitch for ‘Vocal for Local’. Kannad folk singer Raghu Dixit will perform on the closing night while ‘Bipul Chettri and The Travelling Band’ will take stage on weekend night on 9th April 2022.
Rongali is confluence of communities of Assam and their Culture, Literature, Fashion, Food, Music and way of life connecting communities and realising roots.
‘Sketches of Darjeeling’ album and ‘Timi jaaney Siligudi, Ma jaaney Sikkim tira….’ famed singer ‘Bipul Chettri and the Travelling Band’ will be performing live at the Rongali Vibes Music stage at the Rongali Festival on Saturday here in Guwahati. Organiser in Chief of the Festival Shyamkanu Mahanta personally extended an open invitation from his official Facebook page. Speaking to his correspondent Mahanta said, “Rongali is a celebration of Confluence of Communities in Assam and Bipul Chettri is invited as Nepali speaking Gorkha community Global artist in the festival which constitute our Assamese society.”
Bipul Chettri tweeted, “Here’s something for you all in Assam. We’re performing at the @RongaliAssam Festival at Guwahati this 9th of April. We look forward to seeing you there. Cheers!”
Along with his band previously performed at the prestigious North East Festival in New Delhi where the musical capital crowd and communities at the festival thoroughly enjoyed and successfully connected Gorkha folk songs with the North Eastern communities.
Rongali Bihu is the biggest new calender festival of Assam. Named after it, the Rongali festival is an attempt to showcase Assam, it’s cultural mosaic, rich heritage with its present structure of diverse social and cultural assimilation and make Assam centre of attraction and destination. This edition’s 3 days festival begins from 8 to 10th April 2022 in Guwahati and it aims to showcase ethnic foods, fashion, music, arts, literature, tradition and modern fusions and way of life of communities of Assam.
