Naina Adhikari’s maiden book Ghaath Pratighat Ka Udhgar Haru, a collection of poems has reinvigorated the literary spirit in Nepali Literature in the recent times specially amongst the young and promising poets of Northeastern region. Her poems have not only touched the young inquisitive minds but also have engulfed the celebrated poets and Nepali litterateurs alike with her outstanding command over writing style and depth.

Naina’s poems have delved deep into the realities of the society and are powerful enough to pierce straight into the reader’s psyche and therefore will open the floodgates of unanswered questions. Her poems might sound gloomy to few but they portray the truths ‘as it is’ that we sense around us.

Mero Gaon Digital Bancha Bancha depicts the hollow promises of the ruling class and how the widening inequality among people further exposes the tall claims made on the holistic development of the people at large.

Her observation on the plight of the farmer in one of the other hard-hitting poems titled ‘Kisan’ will transport one into the world where an average farmer has to confront every single day the hardships and difficulty to meet two square meals a day for the family. The struggles of a farmer in difficult times resonate in this particular poem of hers.

Naina’s poem Daijo Ra Pewa reminds us all about how there is so much more to be done towards women empowerment on ground and if one observes closely and delicately it can be found that the all-pervading vulnerability of the women of our society and their gullibility have made them miserable and dependent many a times.   The lines like Harek Bihan, Pratyek Sanjh, Retinchan Chulesi Ko Dharma Uska Chahana Haru, Bistarai Dhamelidai Janchan Uska Anuhar Ka Rangaharu Purana Vada Sarah, depict the purposeless life and a withered environment where a woman sinks into the quagmire of hopelessness and meaninglessness.

Naina Adhikari has touched and explored different aspects of our lives cobwebbed with social mores, beliefs and set ups. Her realistic approach and appropriate usage of words have made her poems impactful and thought provoking. Naina started to pen down her thoughts and realizations two years back in the form of poems and in such a short time she has literally bagged a rightful place into the Nepali Literature arena as one of the brightest and promising   young poetesses from Assam. Naina Adhikari’s poems will definitely inspire a new generation of young writers and composers who are inclined to take a closer look at the society.
