Ace journalist Rezaul Laskar keen to promote  media studies in NE

 

 Very few journalists from the North East have made it big on the national scene. Rezaul Hasan Laskar from Shillong is one such. Since he maintains a low profile, many people from the region are not aware of his feats and achievements. Laskar was felicitated by Ajmal Foundation at their Guwahati Office on Wednesday. Laskar, who is on a visit to the city, held discussion with senior officials of the Foundation and discussed various issues relating to initiatives that need to be taken for better facilities for journalism and mass communication studies in the North East. He assured his support to the Foundation in this mission.

Laskar, born and educated in Shillong, worked as a desk journalist at The Shillong Times during 1990-91 and at The Meghalaya Guardian during 1991-93. He was the Shillong Correspondent of The Sentinel during 1993-95 and worked for The Asian Age both in Shillong and Delhi during 1995-2000. During 2000-2006 he was posted at the Delhi Office of Indo Asian News Service (IANS), while during 2006 to 2014 he served the Press Trust of India (PTI). During his assignment with PTI, he also had a long stint as the Bureau Chief of the Islamabad (Pakistan) Office of PTI. During his tenure in Pakistan, he did the coverage of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, Marriot Hotel blast and Lal Masjid shootout.

On his return to India he was attached for a while as the National Bureau Chief with Mail Today and in 2015 he joined as a senior journalist and News Coordinator at the Delhi Office of the Hindustan Times.

In 1999, Laskar had received the covetous Chevening Scholarship for Print Journalism that included a six week trip to London. He has visited the USSR, Syria, USA, Lebanon, Tajikistan, UAE, France, Canada and many other countries on journalistic assignments. He is also a regular participant in panel discussions over national TV channels.
